Thousands flock to final DA rally

JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has begun the final rally of its election campaign this morning at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg.

Thousands of supporters have flocked to the venue for the Vote for Jobs Rally.

Supporters dressed in the party's signature blue have been singing songs and chanting "Zille for president".

Musicians iFani, Micasa and Bucie Nqwiliso performed for the crowd ahead of the official start.

The entire inside is draped in blue, with massive DA posters and images of Helen Zille, Mmusi Maimane, Lindiwe Mazibuko and Patricia de Lille looking down on the crowd.

Zille and Maimane are expected to take several swipes at the ANC today, arguing that the DA is a viable alternative to the ruling party.

The rally, which will run until 1pm, is being broadcast on SABC 2 as well as the SABC News channel, ANN7 and eNCA on DStv. On radio, it will be broadcast on SAFM, Lotus FM, Ukhozi FM and Umhlobo Wenene.

The country will go to the polls on Wednesday, 7 May.
