Fedusa defends public holidays
Some businesses are complaining that 12 public holidays are hitting the economy hard.
CAPE TOWN - Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) said public holidays won't affect businesses that have planned adequately.
South Africa has 12 public holidays annually, in comparison to countries like Spain that have 14.
Some businesses complain these breaks hit the economy hard.
South Africa marked Workers Day yesterday, one of several public holidays over the past few days.
But Fedusa's Dennis George said public holidays should not be problematic.
"The issue of a public holiday is always a debate at this time of the year. Public holidays are already factored in the macro framework for the economic development of the country, because everybody knows there will be 12 public holidays per year."
