R730m hospital opened in Soweto
After years of delays, the new Zola Jabulani District Hospital is finally being opened in Soweto.
JOHANNESBURG - After years of delays the new Zola Jabulani District Hospital is finally being opened in Soweto this morning just a week before the elections.
The 300-bed facility was built at a cost of R730 million rand.
The new hospital, which is situated opposite the popular Jabulani Mall in Soweto, is expected to take some pressure off the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
President Jacob Zuma was supposed to open the new hospital, but is instead campaigning elsewhere ahead of next week's elections.
The new hospital will among others provide care in maternity, post-natal, gynaecology and radiology.
This hospital will serve three critical roles by proving support to health workers in clinics, first level hospital care for the districts and to be the place of referral from clinics or community health centres.
