The first ever human rights walk by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is underway at Constitution Hill.
JOHANNESBURG - The first ever human rights walk by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is underway at Constitution Hill, where the struggle veteran and other prominent South Africans are celebrating 20 years of democracy.
Constitution Hill is also celebrating its 10th year of existence and was formerly the site of the Fort Prison during apartheid, where political leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were detained.
The five kilometre walk will be followed by live performances and educational activities for children throughout the day.
Kathrada says the human rights walk is aimed at preserving the importance of the heritage site.
"We are not only looking at the past, we are now looking at the future. I am very glad that all these efforts are being made to preserve and strengthen what we are looking forward to."
