CAPE TOWN - Utility back Mark Richards has replaced Cecil Afrika in the Springbok Sevens squad for next weekend's Glasgow leg of the Sevens World Series.

Afrika is still feeling the effects of a groin strain he suffered in Hong Kong.

He will stay in South Africa to complete his rehabilitation.

Richards last played for the Blitzbokke during round one of the World Series at the Gold Coast in Australia.

Springbok Sevens coach Neil Powell says Richards earned his seat on the plane to Scotland.

"Mark really put up his hand during our training camp over the past two weeks and deserves his chance. He has experience of playing at this level and is eager to grab his chance."

In other injury news, forward Chris Dry has been cleared to play after sufficiently recovering from a lower back injury.

"Chris is a quality player and has shown great form for this season, so it's a welcome bonus for us that he is available to play," Powell added.

Skipper Kyle Brown and Philip Snyman were included in the squad after shaking off injuries.

The Springbok Sevens travel to the United Kingdom on Monday evening.

The team will play Portugal, Samoa and New Zealand in the pool stages.

Springbok Sevens squad for the Glasgow Sevens: Chris Dry, Philip Snyman, Frankie Horne, Jamba Ulengo, Werner Kok, Kyle Brown, Branco du Preez, Stephan Dippenaar, Justin Geduld, Mark Richards, Kwagga Smith, Seabelo Senatla.
