Klapmuts incident is tragic - Phiyega
It is alleged a cop was one of the men behind murdering another cop and robbing the Klapmuts police station.
CAPE TOWN - National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega said it's tragic one of their own was involved in the latest police killing in the Western Cape.
Warrant officer Steven Britz was shot dead during an armed robbery at the Klapmuts Police Station near Stellenbosch last week.
Britz is being laid to rest today.
A suspended police officer and another man appeared in court in connection with the incident this week.
The officer's fingerprints were allegedly found at the crime scene.
A third suspect was arrested yesterday.
Phiyega said she's sad that a police officer was killed.
"We have a lot of introspection to do and many questions to answer for ourselves and the nation."
She comforted Britz's widow who broke down in tears as she lit a candle for her husband at a memorial service yesterday.

The father of two, who was in the police force for more than two decades, was described as a hard working officer, loving father and husband and loyal friend.
