CAPE TOWN - The ANC and the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) may be taken to court for allegedly abusing state resources.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has accused the ruling party of distributing food parcels funded by taxpayers at ANC election rallies.

The party has asked Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to investigate.

DA leader Helen Zille said the ANC needed to be stopped from abusing public money.

"Even though it looks as if it is for a good cause and even though the DA strongly supports food for indigent people, there is a process and it shouldn't be abused for party political purposes."
