Mitchells Plain residents to march against gangsterism
The Community Policing Forum says it will rally local residents to join anti-crime initiatives in the area.
JOHANNESBURG - Residents of Mitchells Plain are planning take to the streets this morning saying they are tired of gangsterism and drugs.
The local Community Policing Forum says it will rally local residents to join anti-crime initiatives in the area.
This is the latest in a number of demonstrations where community members and leaders have been pleading for peace.
Yesterday, an 18-year-old-boy was shot dead in beacon valley.
The forum's Abie Isaacs said, "The anti-crime initiative emanated from the prevalent gang violence in the Mitchells Plain area and we're saying enough is enough."
Meanwhile, last week residents said they live in fear as the area has been the site of recurring alleged gang violence in recent weeks.
In March, two teenagers were killed and two others wounded in shootings in the area.
