CAPE TOWN - New Western Province Director of Rugby Gert Smal is set to meet with the Stormers coaches today, hoping to figure out the reasons behind the Cape side's dismal Super Rugby campaign.

The Stormers slumped to their sixth defeat in seven matches following the 22-11 loss to the Waratahs on Saturday, condemning Allister Coetzee's side to the bottom of the Super Rugby table after five consecutive defeats.

Coetzee welcomed Smal's arrival, and said he was looking forward to hearing his opinion on the troubles afflicting the team.

"I'm happy Gert is here. He will be listening to all our plans, he will be sitting in our meetings, listening, and it will be good to hear his view."

Coetzee believes the poor run of performances can be attributed to Western Province rugby going through a 'cultural change', trying to move away from a 'defence and kicking' style towards a more all-round game.

"What I've got to do now is persist with this group of players, and make sure that they buy into this and not go back to the defence and kicking orientated game. We have to persist with this, and I think we will turn the corner."

The Stormers have a bye this weekend, with their next game against the Lions on Saturday 19 April.
