JOHANNESBURG - Sri Lanka claimed their first ever T20 World Cup title as they beat India by six wickets in the final in Mirpur, Bangladesh.

Kumar Sangakkara scored 52 off 35 as they reached their target with 13 balls to spare.

After a delay due to a wet outfield Sri Lanka won the toss and sent India in to bat first.

Virat Kohli again was the star for India as he scored 77 off 58, while the other batsmen were unable to deliver the goods on the day.

Rohit Sharma made 29 off 26 as India finished on a below par 130/4 in their 20 overs.

In reply Kusal Perera was the first wicket down, he was dismissed by Mohit Sharma in the second over.

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene made 18 and 24 respectively before Sangakkara blasted the team home.

The wicket keeper was awarded for his brilliant batting display by being named man of the match, while it was a bitter-sweet moment for Kohli who was named player of the tournament.
