CT trains disaster relief volunteers

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says more volunteers will be trained to boost the Disaster Risk Management team ahead of winter.
Several members of the Macassar community who have done first aid training received certificates earlier on Saturday.
The volunteers have been trained to assist in medical emergency situations within informal settlements and had to pass a written examination before receiving accreditation.
Plans are underway to roll out the project in high schools in the area.
"We have quite a large volunteer core, people who night after night, weekend after weekend make their time available, go out on the streets to work at disasters, fire and flooding incidents to assist with humanitarian relief and so forth."
