In Tune – The King of Pop returns
Michael Jackson is back from the dead with a new album.
It's been almost five years since the King of Pop died and this week his record company announced a new album, featuring eight unreleased tracks.
Titled Xscape, the album will feature all new material with guest producers including Timbaland.
Is it just me or does that feel a little weird?
Jacko certainly won't be the first artist to have posthumous music released… but Michael was unlike all other artists. He made white kids like black music so much that he later became white himself. He crossed boundaries… and he crossed many lines.
Forced into showbiz by his heavy-handed, disciplinarian dad, Joe Jackson, he carved out a career unlike any other. He's had the most number one hits and Thriller is the top selling album of all time.
Michael's personal problems never quite dwarfed his musical career but they came close. We all knew of the allegations with many children, but the depth of his involvement with drugs only came to light after his death.
Here's my concern: Jackson never released a bad album. They were all very good, some were excellent. I pray the curators of this record have filled it with hits… not fodder to fill their pockets.
RIP Michael Jackson… if they'll let you.
