JOHANNESBURG - Defending champions Kaizer Chiefs redeemed themselves and beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-0 on Wednesday in the PSL game at FNB Stadium.

The Glamour Boys lacked the firing power in the first half but quickly made amends with two quick second half goals to add more misery to relegation candidates Arrows.

Goals from Erick Mathoho and Kingston Nkhatha saw Chiefs cement their lead at the top of the log with three points clear on 52 points and with still one game in hand. The Stuart Baxter team has an opportunity to stretch their lead to six points when they face second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday evening.

Maritzburg United got their first historic league win over Supersport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday, with goals from Heinrich Isaacks, David Booysen and Terrance Mandaza. United are on 27 points from 24 games and have moved completely out of the relegation zone.

Thulasizwe Mbuyane scored the only goal for Mpumalanga Black Aces to beat his former team Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday. Aces squandered first half chances to go ahead when Tendai Ndoro missed clear chances to score.

Black Aces moved up to fifth on the log, while Pirates remain in fourth spot.
