Petrol price to rise again tonight
Motorists will now pay a record price of R14.39 for a litre of petrol.
JOHANNESBURG - The petrol price is going up at midnight tonight but some economists don't think this will dramatically alter consumer spending patterns.
Motorists will now pay a record price of R14.39 for a litre of petrol after an increase of up to seven cents.
But there's some relief for diesel users, with the price going down by up to eight cents a litre.
Economist Dawie Roodt says consumers must have a good financial plan.
"It's not only the petrol price going up. Over the next couple of months we will see food prices going up quite sharply, another increase in electricity prices and all sorts of other price increases are likely to happen as well."
In February, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan increased the fuel levy by 12 cents per litre, while the Road Accident Fund levy was hiked by eight cents per litre.
