CT man dies while catching train
The man allegedly died after attempting to catch a moving train at Cape Town station.
CAPE TOWN - A man has died after attempting to catch a moving train at Cape Town station on Tuesday.
Metrorail Regional Manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz says the train was delayed for about an hour following the incident.
He said the train just started moving when the man tried to jump in between two carriages.
"Unfortunately he missed the step and fell under the train, which killed him instantly."
Meanwhile, emergency personnel say a pedestrian has died after he was hit by a bus in Table View.
The 19-year-old man was apparently on his way to work when the incident took place on Blaauwberg Road on Tuesday morning.
The man was found with multiple severe fractures.
Officials believe he died on impact as he was trying to cross the busy road.
It is unclear how the collision occurred and investigations are now underway.
Western Cape traffic officials say pedestrian safety is a major issue and a huge contributing factor to road deaths in the province.
At least 50 percent of road fatalities across the country are pedestrians.
