JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education says a 10-year-old pupil is receiving counselling at a Germiston primary school after her teacher allegedly forced her and other pupils to watch a pornographic movie.

The girl's mother last week opened a case against the teacher who works at the Dinwiddie Primary School.

The provincial education department's Phumla Sekhonyane says one of its main priorities is to make sure that pupils feel safe at school.

"Because the safety of children is a priority for us we are already providing counselling to the learner."

The department says it has put the teacher on precautionary suspension pending an investigation into the allegations.

The girl's mother told the _Sowetan _newspaper that after the incident, the 10-year-old explained what she was shown by drawing a graphic picture of it.

The mother also claims that the same teacher was in hot water late last year for telling pupils she hated President Jacob Zuma because he "kills white people".
