CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape is adamant there's nothing sinister about the reinstatement of two controversial councillors who were behind the so-called poo wars.

Andile Lili and Loyiso Nkohla were welcomed back into the party on Monday, just one month after Nkohla was expelled and Lili was suspended for bringing the party into disrepute.

They were found to be behind a string of incidents last year where raw sewage was dumped at, among other places, the Cape Town International Airport and the Provincial Legislature.

The protest was against the municipality's new portable toilet system.

The ANC Songezo Mjongile says "I think in this instance they were acquitted on procedural grounds."
