Hunt rules Wits out of title race
Coach Gavin Hunt says the gap between his team and log leaders Kaizer Chiefs is too big to catch up.
JOHANNESBURG - Gavin Hunt ruled out Bidvest Wits from the title race following a 0-0 draw against AmaTuks that left them 11 points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have yet to play Wits at home this season, but despite this, Hunt does not believe his side can mount a title challenge.
"The point difference is too big and they have to hit a big wall which I don't think they will do because they are rolling now, they are grinding out results and that's what they've been doing all season, and that's what you do to win a league."
Hunt is now focusing on trying to build a squad that can challenge for the title next season.
"I know what it takes to win leagues and trophies and I know what you need and don't need. We're short of what we need in certain areas, and the players are doing well and we have two players coming next year and I'm sure they will make a difference."
Hunt also lamented his side for failing to turn their possession into goals.
The draw against AmaTuks means Wits have failed to win in their past two games.
The Wits coach said his side is currently lacking that final trick to finish teams off.
"We should have won the game comfortably because both times we dominated and the score could have been anything."
AmaTuks coach Steve Barker applauded his team for the manner in which they defended in securing a point
"A point against a team like Wits is a great point for us. During the game we were under pressure, but coming out with a point is pleasing."
