JOHANNESBURG - The funeral service of three Mamelodi boys who were found dead last weekend after they went missing during heavy rains in Pretoria east is underway.

Nine-year-old Bonolo Malemela and 10-year-old Gomolemo Mangena and Neo Sehlabane were swept away by flood waters last week Monday.

The boys were last seen playing near a stormwater drainage pipe which had been covered by flood debris.

Relatives this morning described how they were battling to come to terms with their loss.

Hundreds of people have come out in support of the families of the boys and to bid farewell to the trio.

Relatives and neighbours have spoken about how the boys were good friends and respected their elders.

Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa is among the people attending the service and has expressed his condolences to the family and the community, saying he knew their dreams for the trio were bright.

His office also paid for today's funeral.

Ramokgopa promised the community that government would do everything possible to prevent further deaths as a result of flooding.
