Eskom workers evacuated after fire scare
The power utility says nobody was injured in the incident.
JOHANNESBURG - Workers were evacuated from the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme construction site near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal, Eskom said on Wednesday.
The power utility said the evacuation took place after smoke was detected in the area.
Officials say emergency services were called to the scene.
Nobody was injured in the incident, the parastatal confirmed.
Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger says workers were evacuated as a safety precaution.
"There's no fire per se, but there was smoke. As a precaution, we looked after our staff. All work will resume tomorrow [Thursday]."
Six workers were killed at a construction site in October when a tunnel collapsed.
