De Klerk: Mandonsela's role must be respected
FW de Klerk says whatever the Public Protector’s findings, her office should be respected.
CAPE TOWN - Former president FW de Klerk says whatever the Public Protector's findings are into the Nkandla issue, her office's report should be respected.
Public Protector Thuli Madonsela is expected to release her much anticipated findings from 12:30pm.
She was asked to investigate how around R208 million was spent on security upgrades to President Jacob Zuma's residence in Kwazulu Natal.
A task team report cleared Zuma and it has been speculated that the ANC will ignore or discredit Madonsela's report. But the ruling party has denied this.
De Klerk says Madonsela's office is impartial and should never be subjected to political attacks.
"I think that she has proven herself to be objective and it is my hope that what appears to be efforts to discredit her will come to an end and that focus should rather be placed on the content of the report and of rectifying things which are pointed out to be wrong. "
