Ajax wary of Chiefs confidence
The Urban Warriors face Kaizer Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
CAPE TOWN - Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa on Wednesday said the confidence flowing through the Kaizer Chiefs side is a worrying factor.
The Urban Warriors face the Premier Soccer League (PSL) log leaders at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening.
The Glamour Boys are on a high after their derby win over Orlando Pirates last weekend.
Ajax failed to beat Tuks at home as the Cape side faltered in their bid to cement a place in the PSL top eight.
De Sa believes the Soweto derby victory will result in strengthened belief for Chiefs players.
"They are really confident now. Obviously when you win a game like that, you're on top of the world. They will feel that they've won a really important game against their biggest rivals. Chiefs will be really confident."
Given Chiefs' congested fixture list, de Sa believes the timing of this match could turn out in his side's favour.
"It's after the derby, it's before a cup game and a champion's league game for them, so it might be a good time to play them. Bear in mind that they also have to travel to Pietersburg [Polokwane], so it's not just another home game for them."
Ajax welcome back a host of players from injury.
De Sa now has around 22 players to choose from rather than the 18 when he first joined.
"At least there are two or three more players available and ready to play now. Some of them are not fully match fit, but they are getting there and they will be able to contribute. I can start weighing up options and get to know some of the guys a bit better."
Chiefs go into the game on a 27-match winning streak at home under coach Stuart Baxter.
Ajax will try to secure only their second away victory of the season, at a venue they have never won at before.
Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
