Girl (10) killed in gang crossfire
A 10-year-old WesBank girl has died and at least four others wounded in a suspected gang shooting.
CAPE TOWN - A 10-year-old has been killed and at least four other people have been wounded in a suspected gang shooting in WesBank, Cape Town. The girl was caught in the crossfire on Sunday night.
The police's Andre Traut says no arrests have been made.
"During the same incident three adult males and one adult female were wounded and taken to hospital. The suspects fled the scene and have not been arrested as yet. Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop."
Meanwhile, six people are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court today in connection with a shooting that claimed the lives of two people and wounded three children on Friday night.
Traut says, "The six suspects will make a court appearance on charges of murder as well as attempted murder. The possession of an illegal firearm will also be investigated. One of the victims succumbed in hospital, bringing the count of fatalities to two. The circumstances of the matter are still being investigated."
Earlier this month, a 16-year-old boy was killed in a suspected gang-related shooting, also in Athlone.
The police's Thembinkosi Kinana said, "According to the information, the teenager was coming from school when he was caught in a crossfire."
A 31-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting.
No arrests have been made with regards to this incident.
Last week, a 50-year-old man was gunned down in suspected gang-related shooting in Delft.
He was shot in the chest several times on Thursday.
Traut said, "The circumstances surrounding the man's death are being investigated. The suspect fled and has not yet been arrested."
