CAPE TOWN - Six suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court today following a deadly gang shooting in Kewtown, where two people were shot dead on Friday evening.

Three children were also reportedly left wounded.

The police's Andre Traut said, "The six suspects will make a court appearance on charges of murder as well as attempted murder. The possession of an illegal firearm will also be investigated. One of the victims succumbed in hospital, bringing the count of fatalities to two. The circumstances of the matter are still being investigated."

Earlier this month, a 16-year-old boy was killed in a suspected gang-related shooting, also in Athlone.

The police's Thembinkosi Kinana said, "According to the information, the teenager was coming from school when he was caught in a crossfire."

A 31-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting.

No arrests have been made.

Last week, a 50-year-old man was gunned down in suspected gang-related shooting in Delft.

He had been shot in the chest several times on Thursday.

Traut said, "The circumstances surrounding the man's death are being investigated. The suspect fled and has not yet been arrested."
