JOHANNESBURG - The Tshwane municipality says it will pay for the funeral of a young boy found dead after heavy flooding in Mamelodi.

Rescue workers found the boy underneath an uprooted tree on Saturday.

His two friends are still missing.

Officials say it's unlikely they'll be found alive.

Tshwane municipality spokesman Blessing Manale says, "We have now closed off the area and are now zooming in to the area where the first kid was found as they estimate that the other kids should be within that vicinity."

The three Mamelodi friends went missing last week Monday during heavy flooding in the area.

It's believed they disappeared after falling into a storm water drain.

The three boys are said to have been playing near the drain when it started raining heavily.
