CAPE TOWN - Five people have died on Western Cape roads this weekend, some in gruesome crashes.

Two people were killed in a head on collision on the West Coast road, while three pedestrians died in separate accidents in Grabouw, on the N2 and the N7 near Vissershoek respectively.

Provincial Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa says, "Late last night on the West Coast road just past Ysterfontein, there was a head on collision between a BMW and another motor vehicle where both drivers died in the accident.

"The total number of fatalities for the weekend stands at five."

Africa adds a Roadlink bus has also been impounded by provincial traffic officials.

"The reason why we impounded the bus was for the fact that there was no permits on the bus, the driver was not allowed to drive the bus in the Western Cape province with that vehicle and because of the fact that his permits were not in order.

"There were also a lot of smooth tyres on the vehicle."
