One dead in Athlone shooting
The woman was shot in the chest while three children have been critically injured.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Emergency Medical Services (EMS) says a 59-year-old woman has been shot and killed in Athlone.
The woman was shot in the chest and died on the scene while three children have been critically injured.
The shooting, alleged to be gang related, took place in Kewtown in Athlone on Friday night.
EMS's Robert Daniels says, "A 59-year-old woman was shot in the chest and died on the scene. A six-year-old child was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
"Two teenage boys aged between 14 and 18, also critically injured, were rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital."
Delft has been the scene of brutal rapes and murders recently.
On Friday gang violence claimed the life of a 50-year-old Delft man. He was shot several times on Thursday.
In another incident in Mitchells Plain a 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were shot dead in crossfire.
A man who is believed to have killed his wife and three-month-old daughter in Delft handed himself over to police.
Various Delft residents have taken to the streets in protest of the killings in their area on Friday night.
The Delft CPF's Reginald Maart says, "The march is to symbolise, we will put crosses just in front of the gang bosses' houses. We will put red crosses with a wreath on them to symbolise the lives of the young ones we've lost in the area."
