'Fewer Manenberg gang shootings'
Dan Plato says his department’s safety plan has led to fewer gang shootings in Manenberg.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato says since the implementation of his department's safety plan, there's been a decrease in gang-related shootings in Manenberg.
Plato held a follow-up meeting with residents on Tuesday night regarding safety measures to curb an ongoing turf war in the area.
Law enforcement officials are maintaining a high visibility in Manenberg, which has been riddled with gang activity.
Police are also currently patrolling at five high-risk schools affected by the ongoing violence.
Plato explains: "The current plan is definitely not sustainable. While the safety plan is in place, we need to come up with a more sustainable plan. We're now busy carving out that sustainable plan and looking at things like CCTV cameras."
