CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Agriculture has ordered that an area on the West Coast, where African horse sickness has been detected, be placed under quarantine.

Two horses have tested positive for the illness.

The department's Wouter Kriel says a team has been sent to investigate.

"The department has also established a rapid response team, which will now be working in that area. They will be reviewing all horse movements that have taken place since December and they will also review the vaccination history of all the horses in that area."
