JOHANNESBURG - Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) president Sidumo Dlamini says he hasn't yet seen a response from the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) to the federation's demand for reasons why it should not be expelled or suspended.

Numsa says it has sent a 54-page response to Cosatu.

But the union now claims it believes its enemies are trying to create a revolt against its leader.

Dlamini says he's heard in the media that Numsa has responded to Cosatu's demand, but hasn't seen the document himself.

Meanwhile, Numsa's deputy general secretary Karl Cloete says they know someone is trying to destabilise the union.

"They are even printing Numsa T-shirts and have unemployed people wear them to create the notion that Numsa is in disarray."

Dlamini says Cosatu will consider Numsa's response at its next Central Executive Committee meeting.
