CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says it is investigating yet another incident of alleged police brutality in the Western Cape.

A constable and civilian were arrested on Monday in connection with the assault of a suspected robber last month near Mossel Bay.

The man remains in a coma after he sustained severe head injuries.

The directorate's Moses Dlamini says, "The victim was assaulted and thrown against a wall. He sustained injuries to his head as well as spinal injuries."

Two police officers were arrested in Cape Town last week after a video of the pair attacking a naked Nigerian man went viral on social media, sparking outrage across the country.

The pair were granted bail in the Western Cape Magistrates Court on Monday while investigations continue.
