Hundreds of thousands of counterfeit DVDs and CDs were also destroyed.
JOHANNESBURG - Hundreds of thousands of counterfeit DVDs and CDs and tens of thousands of litres of illegal liquor have been destroyed in Isando on the East Rand.
The goods were seized during the Duty Calls National Festive Season Crime-Fighting campaign.
National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega attended the proceedings along with a number of her officers.
Phiyega says most of the pirated DVDs and CDs as well as illegal alcohol were confiscated in Hillbrow and Pretoria.
"We destroyed 93,346 litres of alcohol and 342,187 counterfeit DVDs."
Officers lined up to destroy the DVDs and CDs in a grinder inside a warehouse.
The demonstration then moved outside where a drain was lined with yellow plastic bags.
Thousands of litres of alcohol including beer, whiskey and wine were poured down the drain.
