CAPE TOWN - It's going be an uphill battle for participants in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour.

The thirty-sixth annual 109 kilometre circular route from Cape Town, down the Cape Peninsula and back, kicked off around 6:15 this morning, with some 35,000 cyclists taking part.

It's certainly going to be a tough day for the riders this year.

They're going to have to contend with extremely windy conditions on the route.

The Cape's infamous wind is out in full force today and will be playing havoc.

Meanwhile, Last year's winner of Team Bonitas, Herman Fouche, is confident he can retain his title, saying he wouldn't have entered the race if he didn't think he could.
