CT police brutality: Cops expected in court
The officers implicated in the assault of a Nigerian national will appear in court tomorrow.
CAPE TOWN - The two Cape Town police officers implicated in allegedly stripping and assaulting a Nigerian national will appear in court on Monday.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says the two warrant officers were arrested soon after a video, seemingly showing them attacking the man, was posted on Facebook on Friday.
In the video, which is just over two minutes long, the officers can be seen repeatedly choking, kicking and punching the man, who has been identified as Clement Emekensha.
The IPID's Moses Dlamini says the suspects will appear on a charge of assault.
He says he hasn't ruled out the possibility other charges may be added.
"After obtaining the statements of witnesses, we arrested the suspects. They will appear in court on Monday 10 March on a charge of assault. It's possible other charges may be added."
