Pistorius trial: Ex-girlfriend testifies

Oscar Pistorius's ex-girlfriend Samantha Taylor has begun giving testimony.

PRETORIA - Oscar Pistorius's ex-girlfriend Samantha Taylor has begun giving testimony in the High Court in Pretoria Court.

Taylor has requested her testimony not be broadcast.

Prior to a brief adjournment, Pistorius's neighbour Johan was re-examined by Nel after a tough cross-examination by defence advocate Barry Roux.

Nel read out Pistorius's version of events and asked Stipp if it was possible to wield a bat in such quick succession.

Stipp said that he wouldn't be able to.

Nel then said, "Pistorius screams for his girlfriend to call the police, enters bathroom and fires four shots, retreats."

Roux objected to this and asked, "Is the state claiming there was no screaming during this process?"

Nel replied that there wasn't.

Stipp said the second shots were in quick succession.

CROSS-EXAMINATION

Roux told Stipp that Pistorius could not remember telling him [Stipp] that he believed Steenkamp was a burglar, but wanted the doctor to help him.

Roux then read out extracts of Stipp's statement where he referred to "windows being closed".

Stipp confirmed to Roux that Pistorius fired four shots in quick succession.

He ended his testimony by saying that the screams for help were slightly to the left of where the initial screams came from.

WET START TO DAY FIVE

This morning photographers snapped away as Pistorius walked into the courtroom wearing a black suit and red tie while shielded by four men.

He was followed by his legal team, which included Roux and advocate Kenny Oldwage.

It was another wet start to proceedings, but it has not prompted dozens of journalists in the streets to pack up and leave.
