JOHANNESBURG - Residents of Soshanguve, where ANC President Jacob Zuma and several other party heavyweights are campaigning, say they hope he will listen to their pleas.

Zuma is canvassing for the ruling party in the township north of Pretoria ahead of the general elections in May.

Soshanguve residents came out in their numbers this morning, taking pictures of the president and chanting songs praising the ANC.

Zuma took his door-to-door campaign to the township and was joined by Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa and Arts and Culture minister Paul Mashatile.

Over the past few weeks residents here and in surrounding townships have held service delivery protests demanding better government services, including water and housing

But today most wore their ANC T-shirts featuring the president's face.
