Bafana spinning after seeing 'five stars'
Bafana were thrashed 5-0 by Brazil in an international friendly match at FNB Stadium.
JOHANNESBURG - Gordon Igesund admits Bafana were beaten by the better team following their 5-0 hammering by Brazil in a friendly on Tuesday night at FNB Stadium.
Neymar scored a hat trick while Oscar and Fernandinho scored a goal each.
Igesund admits that his side could just not handle what they Brazilians had to offer.
"We were beaten by a very good team. They were absolutely outstanding, it can be difficult to mark Neymar and Hulk. I thought the first half was good and I was happy with the performance because we moved the ball nicely."
The game saw Supersport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams make his debut and Igesund praised the player for his performance despite the result.
The Bafana coach says the introduction of young players like Williams in the squad is necessary.
"Obviously like many players out there he learnt many lessons, which is important. It wasn't easy for him, he was nervous like everybody else. You have to throw the youngsters in sometimes."
Igesund was also impressed with the performance of striker Thulani Serero following his absence from the national team.
"Serero was very good because he played at a higher level. I was happy with the way he worked and the way he moved and the way he tried to make things happen for us."
The clash against the five-time World Cup winners was Bafana's first match since their disastrous African Nations Championship campaign ending with a 3-1 loss to Nigeria in January.
