JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg emergency services say they will not resume attempts to rescue trapped miners at an abandoned shaft in Durban Deep in Roodepoort.

Last week the bodies of five more illegal miners were discovered at the shaft bringing the death toll to 11.

The miners are believed to have died from inhaling harmful gasses.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says it is still not safe for officials to go underground.
