Cape shack fires leave 43 homeless

Around 29 people were left homeless in Lwandle and 14 in Khayelitsha in fires over the weekend.

CAPE TOWN - Shack fires in Cape Town over the weekend have left 43 people homeless.

In Lwandle in Strand, 15 shacks were gutted, leaving 29 people homeless.

In another incident, 14 Khayelitsha residents were displaced when a blaze destroyed their dwellings.

No injuries have been reported.

City of Cape Town disaster risk management's Wilfred Solomons Johannes says, "Our disaster teams assisted the affected victims with the necessary relief aid. The city of Cape Town wants to make a renewed appeal to residents to exercise caution."
