Defence: Krejcir is not a flight risk
Radovan Krejcir’s lawyers say he does not have a passport and therefore cannot leave SA.
JOHANNESBURG - The legal team representing Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir says he does not possess a passport and is therefore not a flight risk.
Krejcir's bail application in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court continued on Friday morning.
He was arrested for kidnapping, attempted murder and assault in connection with a multi-million rand drug deal that went wrong and resulted in a hostage drama last year.
Krejcir's legal team says an affidavit by the South Africa Revenue Service (Sars) official is incorrect and he does not currently have a passport.
They have argued that Krejcir's business and family is suffering due to him being behind bars.
The magistrate is expected to rule on the matter today.
Meanwhile, Krejcir's wife Katerina Krejcirova was arrested at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court earlier in connection with a stolen vehicle found at their Vaal property.
Krejcir says he believes the police are also looking for his son.
Last July, Krejcir made headlines after a failed assassination outside Bedfordview office.
He had just exited his vehicle outside his office when several shots were fired at him.
It was later discovered that a remote-control-triggered gun with twelve barrels was used.
The device was situated behind the licence plate on a red Volkswagen Cross Polo. The car then burst into flames.
