JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo police say a 22-year-old motorist who accused Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema of common assault and damage to property has withdrawn the case.

Bernard Redelinghuys on Wednesday opened the case against Malema and another man after claiming he was confronted and slapped during a road-rage incident in Polokwane earlier this week.

The EFF says it was never made aware of any investigation.

The party claims the case was aimed at tarnishing Malema's image.

The police's Hangwani Mulaudzi says, "It's not true that he was never investigated. The case was being investigated and then the complainant decided to withdraw the matter."
