Cop killer jailed for 22 years
A Worcester man has been sentenced to 22 years behind bars for the murder of a police officer.
CAPE TOWN - A Worcester man has been sentenced to 22 years behind bars for the murder of a police officer.
Walden Willemse shot and killed Warrant Officer Peter Roux in 2012 with his own service pistol.
He was found guilty at the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday.
Willemse received a 22 year sentence for Roux's murder which includes five years for theft and another five for being in possession of a firearm.
Willemse showed no emotion as he learned his fate.
He has several previous convictions including reckless and negligent driving and assault.
He was first convicted for a burglary at the age of 13.
Roux was robbed of his service pistol and other belongings after he picked up a prostitute.
The sex worker then gave the firearm to Willemse whom she knew.
Willemse shot Roux when he gave chase to retrieve his belongings.
