Chaos at CT Council
ANC councillors on Wednesday allegedly threw copies of the city's draft budget on the floor.
CAPE TOWN - There is drama at the Cape Town City Council on Wednesday afternoon after ANC councillors allegedly threw copies of the city's draft budget on the floor.
The budget was delivered by Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille.
But the event was marred by some councillors literally littering the floor with the draft budget document.
The mayor has been lambasted this week following news of a proposed new City of Cape Town logo and pay-off line.
Mayoral spokesperson Solly Malatsi says, "It's clear that they were intent on disrupting the rules of council in the interest of their ungovernability campaign aimed at destabilising both DA administrations in the city and Western Cape government.
"Council will resume and the responsible parties are urged to fulfill their responsibilities to the people of Cape Town, with or without the ANC being present."
In a statement on Wednesday, the City of Cape Town says the ANC's actions show total disregard for democracy.
Pictures of councillors dumping piles of paper in front of the podium have been posted on Twitter.
