Proceedings delayed at CT Council
City of Cape Town council meeting on Wednesday experienced several disruptions which led to hours of delays.
CAPE TOWN - Wednesday's City of Cape Town council meeting has seen affected by several disruptions.
This resulted in several hours of delays.
Some ANC councillors on Wednesday disrupted proceedings, claiming they had not seen a copy of the draft budget before it was presented to council.
A few minutes after lunch, the council meeting was halted yet again as some ANC councillors expressed their dissatisfaction in the manner in which the speaker proceeded with the agenda.
They sang struggle songs and beat their hands on desks, preventing Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille and other delegates from speaking.
This forced the speaker to call on the mayor and an ANC leader to step out of council to discuss the situation.
Other councillors say while objections to proceedings are not uncommon, this type of behaviour has not been seen in council meetings in recent years.
