Madonsela: Ombudsmen must curb excess
Thuli Madonsela is at the African Ombudsman Summit with ombudsmen from more than 30 African countries.
JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says the basic minimum requirements needed for institutions such as hers to function properly must be ironed out at the African Ombudsman Summit.
The conference, which is being held in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, is being attended by ombudsmen from more than 30 African countries.
The Public Protector says there is a basic function that ombudsmen across the continent must perform.
"We're all here to curb excesses in the exercise of state power and control over state resources."
She says to fulfil this duty certain conditions need to be met.
