Audit into allocation of fishing rights
Minister Joemat-Pettersson announced an independent audit into the allocation of fishing rights.
CAPE TOWN - The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has hit out at organisations and individuals it believes are aggravating its relationship with the country's fishing community.
Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson on Sunday announced an independent audit into the allocation of fishing rights.
Only 215 applications were approved of the more than 1,500 that were submitted.
Joemat-Pettersson addressed fishermen in Kalk Bay about the audit.
"Do not speak to charlatans who present themselves as lawyers and the advisers of ministers, they are not. Do not be abused, we will send people to listen to you."
The minister has also extended the date for people to appeal the process, until the end of April.
