Ad-hoc committee to ‘rebuild’ ASA
The IAAF says the interim body was established to help push the organisation forward.
JOHANNESBURG - An ad-hoc committee established to take over operations of Athletics South Africa (ASA) will disband after elections, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said on Monday.
The interim body was established to help push the organisation forward, the association said.
An IAAF representative has been in South Africa to try resolve issues crippling the ASA, including political infighting, factionalism and financial mismanagement.
The association's Cheikh Thiare says the committee is important in helping rebuild the organisation.
"This ad-hoc committee is requested to be neutral on all matters and none of its members will be allowed to stand for elections in the forthcoming general meeting."
Earlier, Thiare promised the IAAF would maintain a hands-on approach in dealing with ASA.
The seven-member committee includes Daan du Toit and Sam Mlangeni.
