Meeting to decide ASA's future
IAAF is expected to name a five-man ad hoc committee to oversee the running of ASA.
JOHANNESBURG - The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) is expected to name a five-man ad hoc committee to oversee the running of Athletics South Africa (ASA) as of Monday.
But this will be if there are no objections raised during today's general assembly meeting.
The committee will be set up to take the athletics body forward following a turbulent period that has seen its board dissolved and an interim seven member body elected.
The interim body, along with 16 of the 17 provinces that make up ASA, met on Saturday with IAAF representatives to plot a way forward for the organisation.
Sello Mokoena, a member of the interim ASA Board, speaking after the meeting at the SA Confederation and Olympic House says today's meeting will decide a way forward for the organisation.
"The IAAF may yet find that there is no stalemate in athletics in South Africa. They first have to make that decision after listening to all parties."
