JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Emergency Services say an operation to try rescue four illegal miners trapped underground in Roodepoort will now resume later this afternoon.

Earlier, the search had to be called off as rescue officials felt the scene was far too dangerous.

This is the latest incident involving illegal miners.

A number of illegal miners were rescued in Benoni earlier this week after they had been trapped by a rival group.

Johannesburg Emergency Services' Nana Radebe says "The mine rescue chairperson has given a go ahead to resume search at around 2pm today. However, we are aware that it is dangerous, there is a high level of carbon monoxide."
