‘Motsoeneng never said he had matric’
The SABC COO hit back at Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s report on the public broadcaster.
JOHANNESBURG - Acting South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng on Thursday said he never claimed to have a matric when he joined the corporation in 1995.
He was reacting to a scathing report by the public protector, which found he didn't have the correct qualifications for the job.
Thuli Madonsela's report, which was released on Monday, further claimed he purged staff who opposed him.
Motsoeneng also received three salary increases in one year.
Speaking through his lawyer Zola Majavu, the COO outlined some of the issues they had with Madonsela's findings.
Majavu says his client filled out a document with the grades he received for subjects completed in a lower grade.
"He did not have matric in 1995 when he was employed, he never said he did."
The lawyer says all the proper disciplinary processes were followed when staff were dismissed.
Majavu further claims Motsoeneng's salary progression came due to a promotion and the fact that he was given more responsibilities.
But he says it is now up to the SABC board to decide not to accept the public protector's recommendations.
